About DAAD Scholarships
A family of German Academic Exchange Service funding programmes for graduate study and research. Choose an individual call before assessing eligibility or funding.
Funding & benefits
- Many awards combine a monthly grant with travel support and insurance; additional language, research or family support depends on the call. Grants do not generally need repayment.
- Example only: the Master Studies for All Academic Disciplines call lists €992 monthly, insurance contributions, a travel allowance and €460 annual study allowance. It explicitly excludes tuition fees. These terms do not describe every DAAD award.
Eligibility & requirements
- Funding primarily targets graduates, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers. Nationality, prior qualification, degree recency, subject and project requirements differ between calls.
- Meet the chosen programme’s language and academic conditions. Selection considers qualifications, the proposed study or research project and applicant potential. A scholarship does not replace university admission.
Application dates & availability
Programme-specific windowsCycle / route: Multiple study and research programmes
- DAAD has no single scholarship deadline. Select your country, qualification and subject in the official database, then read the chosen call’s application procedure.
- The portal’s submission option appears during that call’s application period. University admission and scholarship deadlines may differ.
Documents to prepare
- Use the exact call checklist. As an example, Master Studies for All Academic Disciplines requests a CV of up to three pages, a one-to-three-page motivation letter, transcripts, a degree certificate, language evidence and an academic recommendation.
- That call also requests admission evidence and the relevant course-information form; admission may be supplied before funding starts when permitted. Other DAAD programmes have different checklists.
How to apply
- Filter the official scholarship database and open a specific call. Check its funding, eligibility, deadline and application route.
- Prepare the listed documents and submit through the specified portal or institution; retain the submission confirmation.
- Apply separately for university admission when required. Follow the call’s selection and award instructions.
