Indian students applying for a Canadian Study Permit usually use the Student Direct Stream (SDS). This fast-track visa process requires you to prove you have the funds to support yourself for your first year. Canada uses the Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) system for this.

To apply, you must buy a GIC worth CAD $20,635 from an approved Canadian bank and pay your full first-year tuition upfront. When you arrive in Canada, the bank releases a lump sum to help you settle, and then pays you the rest in monthly installments to cover your rent and groceries. We handle your entire GIC setup and SDS visa filing.

How does the PGWP help me get Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada?
The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows you to stay and work in Canada. Once you get 1 year of skilled work experience on your PGWP, you become eligible to apply for PR through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under the Express Entry system, drastically increasing your chances of settling permanently.
What is the Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa?
SDS is a fast-track study permit process for students from specific countries, including India. To apply, you must show proof of a CAD $20,635 GIC, pay your first-year tuition upfront, take an upfront medical exam, and have an IELTS score of at least 6.0. IRCC processes SDS applications much faster than regular study permits.
Are spouse visas still allowed?
Recent IRCC policy changes have tightened rules. Currently, only the spouses of international students enrolled in Master's, Doctoral, or specific professional degree programs are eligible to apply for an Open Work Permit to join them in Canada.
What is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)?

Do I have to pay my full first-year tuition before applying for the visa?
If you want to apply through the faster Student Direct Stream (SDS) from India, yes. Paying your full first-year tuition and buying the GIC are strict requirements for SDS. If you use the standard non-SDS route, you only need to show sufficient funds in your bank account, but processing takes longer.
Can I switch programs or universities after arriving in Canada?
Yes, international students have the right to change their program of study or institution. However, you must ensure your new institution is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and you must actively update your DLI number in your IRCC online portal to remain compliant with your study permit conditions.
